Expert Biography

Justine is the Founding Director of Sporting Heritage, the UK wide subject specialist network for sporting collections and access. Justine has a strong belief of the role and value of sporting collections both in and of themselves, but also in terms of supporting wider social, cultural, political and economic understanding and cohesion. Justine set up Sporting Heritage to respond to the lack of awareness and focus placed on these unique and essential sporting collections. Prior to Sporting Heritage, Justine ran her own cultural consultancy, was Yorkshire Outreach Manager for BBC Learning, Deputy Head of Learning at the National Media Museum, Education Coordinator at National Museums Liverpool, and, in a previous life, a Senior Producer and programme maker with Granada Television and the BBC. Justine’s background is in archaeology and history and she has a passion for opening collections to diverse audiences. ·       Passionate advocate of diverse community engagement in the cultural and heritage sector ·       PhD in Sport, Museums and Cultural Policy ·       Associateship of the Museums Association (AMA) ·       Founding member and current Chair of the Subject Specialist Network Consortium ·       Former TV producer turned museologist ·       Champion of SEN/neurodiversity awareness ·       One of the founding members and Chair of the Leeds Community Concert Band (Plays the Alto and Tenor Sax) ·       Warm, confident and genuine speaker, with her extensive experience giving her messages real foundations
