Liana Semchuk is a Lead Europe and Eurasia Analyst at Sibylline. She oversees the desk's analytical output on a broad range of enduring and emerging risks across both regions, including activism trends, political developments and hard security issues.
Liana is a particular expert on Ukrainian and Russian issues.
Before joining Sibylline in October 2019, Liana worked in management consulting as well as the public sector in the United States, including in the US Senate and Illinois State government.
In April 2021 Liana successfully completed her PhD Dissertation at the University of Oxford, Nuffield College, studying the impact of oligarchs in the 2014 separatist crisis in eastern Ukraine. She also holds an MPhil in Comparative Government from the University of Oxford and a BA in Political Science from DePaul University. She held several international fellowships and authored numerous opinion pieces in her field. In addition to English, Liana speaks Ukrainian and Russian and has a working knowledge of German and Polish.
