I help grieving pet owners after the death of their pet, using a blend of hypnotherapy and grief counselling.
I first trained as a hypnotherapist in 2011. I opened my first practice in Covent Garden, and then moved back to my native North East in 2013 to be closer to my parents, where I re-established my practice in Saltburn by the Sea.
Initially I was helping clients with all the usual things; stop smoking, weight loss, anxiety, drinking too much, sleeping problems etc.
During the initial consultation I always ask about the best and worst times in the clients life. Repeatedly the worst times were about the death of a pet. Quite often that would be the cause of the problem. For instance, a client who said she was unable sleep revealed that when she was a child her dog had been 'put to sleep' and of course never woke up.
I decided to specialise in helping people with pet grief and did extra training. I have even written for professional journals to help other therapists spot the signs.
I can share lots of case studies (client confidentiality maintained.)
Since the start of the pandemic I have moved from seeing clients face to face to doing my sessions by video call, which means I can help clients anywhere they can get a signal!
We are a nation of pet lovers - but pet death is an area which is constantly over looked.
