Nigel was shortlisted for the PPA - Columnist of the Year Award for his popular columns in the Veterinary Record. Others on the shortlist included Caitlin Moran (Times) and Monty Don (BBC)
Most recently he worked as a research Vet for Exeter University where he wa responsible for the welfare of many animals from small dormice to Basking Sharks - both of whom were tracked by telemetry and satellite
He also worked with cutting edge researchers investigating diseases such as Alzheimers. He is currently engaged by an eco-toxicology laboratory in Devon - working with research fish.
Most recently the teams there performed important regulatory work for the Pfizer Coronavirus vaccine
Nigel qualified as a Vet from the Royal Veterinary College and then travelled to Canada to work as as a surgical intern, mainly equine, at the Ontario Veterinary College - Guelph, Ontario.
He then worked in a variety of vet practices , large animal and pet for several years before opening his own practice in Plymouth
Nigel was the resident Vet on BBC's Saturday Superstore and Going Live! His appearance with Gordon the Gopher and a puppy is a top BBC outtake. He was voted second to David Bellamy as TV's most popular expert.
Nigel has appeared on many other TV shows including This Morning, Really Useful Show, Big Breakfast and many others.
He currently writes for the Veterinary Record but has also had regular columns in the Daily Express and Take a Break which were very popular
Nigel appeared on Animal Hospital Roadshow - the pilot for Animal hospital was filmed at his practice
Nigel has had over twenty books published including 'A Vet Called Nigel' -(Mandarin)and The Going Live! Pet Book (BBC)
