Rukshana Choudhury is Europe Editor for The Muslim Vibe, which involves writing news articles, opinion articles, producing and presenting podcasts. The Muslim Vibe currently has 1.2 million subscribers and followers on social media. Rukshana also works as a Communications Manager for a modern Islamic supplementary Saturday school. Her main topics of news expertise include religion, Islamophobia, terrorism in Europe, hate crime, UK Home Affairs, education, family life, motherhood and the Rohingya Muslim refugee crisis in South Asia.
She is also a freelance Broadcast Journalist for Associated Press News. She is currently working on the Editorial Client Liaison desk and has worked as a live news producer and satellite’s coordinator on the Global Media Services team, which provides broadcast facilities and editorial support to TV networks and worked as a News Assistant. She was also a freelance Assignment News Editor at CGTN Europe.
Throughout her career, she has been involved in the coverage of major international breaking news stories including the Brexit referendum, US Presidential Elections/ Inaugurations 2016 and 2020, Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 Disappearance, Ebola crisis, the emergence of ISIS, Charlie Hebdo attacks, Russia Hacking Scandal, Zika outbreak, Air Asia Crash, Westminster Attacks, Women’s March, the Syrian regime, Turkey coup, World Economic Forums, Royal Weddings, Olympics, Coronavirus, Black Lives Matter movement and the U.S Capitol Violent Siege, to mention a few.
She previously worked for ITN News as one of the International Assistant News Editors/ News Producers. And was a Broadcast Journalist working in the planning department at BBC London News. She worked as a producer and Home Affairs Correspondent for one of Bangladesh’s most popular channels ATN Bangla UK.
Rukshana has extensive experience working in extremely busy press environments as a Media Relations Campaign Executive/ Newsroom Producer for the country’s leading broadcast PR consultancy Markettiers4dc securing media coverage for charities, NGO’s and consumer brands. Her interest in politics led her also to work as a Media Officer for Westminster City Council where she was responsible for media coverage about Children Services and Education.
In 2019, Rukshana was a British Muslim Awards finalist in the ‘One to Watch' category for achievements in journalism and shortlisted as Journalist of the Year 2019 finalist for the Asian Media Awards. And most recently The Muslim Vibe won Best Global Muslim Podcast and came runner up for Best Muslim Publication of the Year in The Global Muslim Social and Spiritual Impact Awards 2020. In 2008, she was awarded the Fiona McDiarmid Bursary (Sky News scholarship) with Westminster University to study MA Broadcast Journalism. Her scholarship included valuable paid work experience at Sky News, Channel Five and GMTV. During her Masters, she was also successful to be part of the BBC News Mentor Scheme via the George Viner Memorial Fund.
Rukshana graduated from Queen Marys University in 2007 with a BA in English and Drama degree. Rukshana is extremely passionate about encouraging women of ethnic backgrounds from lower socioeconomic backgrounds to pursue media careers, so she is a Princes Trust Mentor. She was also a Screenskills 2020 mentee (which is supported by the British Film Institute.) She is multilingual and loves learning new languages.
